Here's Hoping for Some Cheer for Valentine's Day in New England

I have a fellow writer that posted recently about ideal gifts for Valentine's Day in New England and it made me wonder about the economy and whether this is another holiday that will disappoint retailers, especially Boston florists.

With the Internet driving many shoppers looking for gifts for Valentine's Day online, and ordering flowers through web sites, many florists earn their bread and butter from Internet sites that take the orders and then have local florists make up the arrangement and deliver the bouquet.

Sending flowers for Valentine's Day remains the most popular expression of love and affection to that special person, with red roses being the traditional flower of romance.

There are local florists to me but to be honest I'm a little lazy and a poor planner, and it is so much easier to jump online and go to my favorite Boston flower delivery service and browse through a large selection, and choose just the right arrangement for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day, or flowers for anniversary.

Joan Daniels writes about shopping on another blog where I have connections and do work and she also talked about New England getaways as another gift to consider for your spouse or sweetheart.

Certainly, inns and resorts are offering some heavy discount vacation packages trying to get rooms and restaurants filled. And New England has many destinations perfect for a New England getaway such as Cape Cod and the Berkshires in Massachusetts, White Mountains in New Hampshire, Acadia in Maine, and of course Stowe in Vermont.

So with Valentine's Day just a few weeks away, and despite the economic woes the country is in and the tight budgets most of us are experiencing, we can't stop living. And though it may require some sacrifices in other areas, celebrating your love for somebody with flowers or a New England weekend getaway, could be just the boost that special person needs to help get through the stress and anxiety of living in these times.

I can't think of a better occasion than Valentine's Day to brighten up somebody's world with a heartfelt gift of flowers and a few days away being pampered.
